     ABOUT THE SERMONS

     
       Pastor Jack is an expository preacher. That is, he uses the Bible text itself as the base for his sermon and incorporates the whole passage into the message, though he uses many commentaries and Bible aide in sermon preparation. As of late, he has primarily been using an amplified Bible, (that is a Bible with notes and side bars commenting on each verse), William Barclay's commentary on the Gospel of John, class notes he took as a graduate student under Dean Richard Reed at Virginia Seminary, as well as his own notes for lectures he has given on the Bible at Eastern Nazarene College.
       The Gospel of John is the Pastor's favorite book in the Bible.

 

    

     For May, the pastor continues his sermon series on the Ten Commandments, the basis of the rules of conduct and morality of western civilization. The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the law and each of the Ten Commandments has their parallel and fulfillment in the Gospel.
